Pleasant surprise

My first website was on blogger, somewhere around 2001. Eventually I moved on the self-hosting and Wordpress and a number of interesting web apps. For a while I didn't need a website at all so I shut all that down and stuck to social media for sharing my work.

Now that the type of work I do has changed, I've been trying to figure out the best "website thing" solution for me. For about a year I simply ran a Wordpress install on a host again, but got super tired of all the extra security steps that are required because it's such a popular platform. Also hosted Wordpress wants you to pay a year at a time for a sub and I just can't do that.

So I'm back on blogger, and it's actually been pretty pleasant so far. I might go so far as to say the platform as it is now is a bit under-rated. It also doesn't hurt that they let you map a custom domain for free, and my domain registrar had a handy preset of settings I could apply in order to map it.

I'm really glad this platform still exists. Getting into it again makes me want to get back into writing and maybe some other stuff that I haven't done since my first blogspot way back when. This should be fun!
